Leda<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Then: the light opened and closed around her;<\/p>\n slumped angels onto the carpet,<\/p>\n trumpeting grotesquely, their shadows<\/p>\n angled into corners, into anywhere and<\/p>\n anything but that safe, squared certainty.<\/p>\n grew larger and filled the air,<\/p>\n feathered and full-bellied,<\/p>\n web-toed as a demon and hot,<\/p>\n but white. Pure white. And soft.<\/p>\n Then: wings, leaving the darkness<\/p>\n no space, no place not to look<\/p>\n to be sure not to see as they pin her<\/p>\n in her chair and the last of the glare swells up<\/p>\n rears into the serpent neck that snips at her throat<\/p>\n Then: she is absented from herself,<\/p>\n poured, rolled, molten gold like the light at her feet,<\/p>\n shot through with hardening gems, mined roughly<\/p>\n as a coalface, as wholly,<\/p>\n until her thighs chaff with fable.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n It leaves her opened, gift-like, on the stairwell<\/p>\n her lips bruised, her eyelids split as fruit,<\/p>\n wrists snapped back in greeting or farewell<\/p>\n as seeds aping love take root.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Kiran Millwood Hargrave<\/strong> was born in London in 1990.
