Breaking Up For Dummies<\/span>

Dear [name of ex-to-be],<\/span>
    There is no easy way<\/span>
    to break the news to you,<\/span>
    [blundered attempt at tact].<\/span>
    I just want you to know<\/span>
    [lame excuse or reason],<\/span>
    but I really am<\/span>
    [empty apology]<\/span>
    I will always treasure<\/span>
    [Hallmark card memories],<\/span>
    and I hope we can still<\/span>
    [caveat just in case<\/span>
    new relationship bombs].<\/span>

Reprieve<\/span>

two fistfuls of green on the ground<\/span>
gleaming with growth, glowing with green<\/span>
in a shade richer than the moss,<\/span>
not buried today by freak frost<\/span>
(there will always be tomorrow<\/span>
and its patient inclemencies),<\/span>
obscured instead by leaf litter<\/span>
so the eye might almost miss them,<\/span>
watching for stray branches and logs<\/span>
and all the while still wondering<\/span>
if these blades have thrust themselves out<\/span>
far too soon to survive, to thrive <\/span>
