The place I come from\u2026..<\/strong><\/p>\n after Robert Seatter<\/em><\/p>\n A father filled with darkness I come from the aftermath of war, <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sophie Yeomans<\/strong> has only recently started poetry writing seriously, to develop and find her voice. \u00a0She is retired so it’s the ideal time to do this. Her inspiration often comes from the natural world. \nOf Welsh mountains.
\nI come from a mother
\nWith hair
\nLike the princess
\nIn a fairy tale.
\nI come from
\nA country town
\nWhere we played
\nOut in the fields
\nAnd were not frightened
\nOf strangers.
\nI come from
\nA place of ditches and dykes
\nWhere we\u2019d catch little fish,
\nAnd make our way
\nInto the drains
\nBelow town,
\nChopping at restricting concrete
\nWith next door\u2019s
\nCoal hatchet.
\nI come from a place
\nWhere the dustman
\nHad gypsy horses,
\nAnd drove them
\nHarnessed
\nTo tilted carts.
\nI come from a city grandmother
\nWho was terrified of cows,
\nAnd a great-aunt who
\nCalled a cup of tea
\n\u2018The Cup of Life\u2019.
\nI come from wych elms
\nLining the football field
\nAnd games of cowboys
\nAnd Indians.
\nI come from roast dinners
\nOn a Sunday,
\nThe collect for the day
\nAnd bible stories.<\/p>\n
\nIts detritus and hope.<\/p>\n
