She\u2019s out of place in this<\/p>\n wind battered garden where bruises<\/p>\n play ring o\u2019 roses at my throat.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Later I wash up, fill the bin,<\/p>\n onion skins and broken<\/p>\n crockery. Those plates can\u2019t be replaced.<\/p>\n They came from Germany with a note:<\/p>\n Wir sind hocherfreut!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n She peers through dirty panes,<\/p>\n pale face mirrored, avoids my gaze.<\/p>\n Perhaps she detects echoes, words<\/p>\n cruel as teeth, loose threads<\/p>\n running. There\u2019s a tear in the fabric<\/p>\n and a button, hanging on.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I hide the whisky bottle. Futile.<\/p>\n He\u2019s already drunk<\/p>\n it down to where anger lies, sleeping<\/p>\n tight against curved glass. She\u2019s still<\/p>\n wide awake, turns the spotlight<\/p>\n on as keys violate the lock.<\/p>\n Looking up, I\u2019m magnetized.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Alli Davies<\/strong> writes prose, poetry and script.
