Freak<\/strong><\/p>\n

The call girl comes in and looks down
\nat all my shoes, which I keep by the door.
\nIt seems a natural place to keep them.
\n“Why do you keep all your shoes by the door?” she asks.
\n“I don’t know,” I say. “Where do you keep yours?”
\n“Well,” she says, “I keep one pair by the door
\nsometimes, but the rest I keep in the closet.”
\n“My closet’s full,” I say.
\n“Where is the closet?” she says.
\n“There.”
\n“I mean,” she says, “it’s like you’ve got a whole
\nOriental thing going here or something, all
\nthese shoes by the door.”
\n“I have always kept them there,” I say.
\n“Really? It just seems strange.”
\nFinally she comes over
\nto the bed.
\nAfterwards, while dressing, she looks
\nagain at my shoes and shakes
\nher head and laughs.
\nWhen she’s gone, I sit staring at those shoes by the door,
\nfeeling like some kind of freak.<\/p>\n
