Bookmark<\/span><\/font><\/span>
  <\/span>
Take this spurred<\/span>
violet<\/span>
from the spread<\/span>
of cordate leaves<\/span>
under the willow \u2013<\/span>
five petals and a stab of light<\/span>
hooked on a pin<\/span>
and shaking<\/span>
with rain<\/span>
 <\/span>
Keep it pressed<\/span>
to the place you are now<\/span>
where for the very first<\/span>
time the lovers<\/span>
have just <\/span>
kissed<\/span>
and no-one's hurt<\/span>
or fading <\/span>
or lost<\/span>

The woods are knitting new leaves<\/span>
into the Great Book of the Year,<\/span>
ancient oaks wind us in <\/span>
among clever branches<\/span>

twigs plucking at buttons and sleeves<\/span>
to turn into acorns and new shoots<\/span>
until we tremble <\/span>
like a new-strung orchestra.<\/span>

We may think we can walk away <\/span>
unchanged in the moon-made evening<\/span>
back to our shingled homes <\/span>
on lamplit streets<\/span>

but we are woven into the trees<\/span>
like threads of fine fabric –<\/span>
you may hear us singing<\/span>
among the deep dark roots of spring.<\/span>

*Douglas Robertson<\/span> is an artist who divides his time between his home in Hampshire, and researching and traveling in his native Scotland.  He regularly works in collaboration with poets, and was recently artist-in-residence at the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh. *Anne Berkeley<\/span>\u2019s first collection, <\/span>The Men from Praga<\/a><\/span> (Salt, 2009), was shortlisted for the Seamus Heaney Centre Prize. She edited Rebecca Elson\u2019s acclaimed posthumous collection <\/span>A Responsibility to Aw<\/span>e, and is one of the poetry group extraordinaire, Joy of Six.  <\/span>

*Caroline Carver<\/span> has won or been placed in many competitions including the National in 1998 and a commendation this year.  Both poems draw on her Jamaican childhood.  She\u2019s a Hawthornden Fellow, has published three collections and is resident poet at Cornwall\u2019s Trebah Gardens. <\/span>
