City Campus<\/span>

To make a square of glass in the corner of a window<\/span>
go to the corner, draw vertical and horizontal<\/span>
lines from the bottom right corner of a square – set <\/span>
into the top left corner of the window<\/span>
until the lines reach the opposite edge of the whole pane<\/span>
at the same height – so the line you have drawn<\/span>
at the bottom horizontal of the square<\/span>
is utterly parallel with the bottom horizontal edge<\/span>
of the window. Voila: the view<\/span>
through a compartmentalized heart.<\/span>
\u00a0<\/span>
Now a square and lines<\/span>
at the other top corner of the window. Have<\/span>
you enough lines, or too many? Is a vertical line<\/span>
needed to bisect the window, or a horizontal<\/span>
bisector, aesthetically or structurally? Too large a pane<\/span>
and the glass will need a pattern of cloudy<\/span>
translucent dots or squares as such. None here.<\/span>
Older. It might be a laboratory or front room behind<\/span>
in the compartmentalized heart.<\/span>
\u00a0<\/span>
Do this to recreate<\/span>
the city that’s been destroyed. Begin<\/span>
with the window, enough that a diary of<\/span>
details from it make sense to descendants.<\/span>
Some windows divide down in 6 parallel strips:<\/span>
equal width. These bisect half way down on 3 <\/span>
strips – with a square half way down as if bisected<\/span>
by total bisection, at the centre of the strip in the<\/span>
other 3 strips. Thus, a distributed 50% of this window<\/span>
does not bisect, horizontally. An<\/span>
imaginary dotted line carried through the bisection <\/span>
(where it visibly, materially bisects alternate<\/span>
strips) centres the squares<\/span>
in the unbisected strips. There is hope<\/span>
of a whole new small heart in the heart here.<\/span>
\u00a0<\/span>
The unbisected strips do not<\/span>
evenly divide vertically into three. It is more like<\/span>
rectangle… narrow end on the horizontal, long end on<\/span>
the vertical… then a square, then a rectangle like<\/span>
the first rectangle. The future of a heart.<\/span>
\u00a0<\/span>
It might be a stairwell<\/span>
or swimming pool behind. There are blue tac<\/span>
blobs on some of the bricks on a wall. There’s no<\/span>
poster. There is a rare wall where the<\/span>
mortar lines of bricks form a grid <\/span>
not imaginary bisections followed through<\/span>
each brick on the line below: neat grid<\/span>
lines. One needs an exterior – ever again\u00a0 <\/span>
to have an uncompartmentalized heart.<\/span>
