{"id":2070,"date":"2012-03-31T16:50:00","date_gmt":"2012-03-31T16:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=2070"},"modified":"2012-03-31T16:52:50","modified_gmt":"2012-03-31T16:52:50","slug":"we-are-delighted-to-launch-the-new-site-with-a-poem-from-ian-duhig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/we-are-delighted-to-launch-the-new-site-with-a-poem-from-ian-duhig\/","title":{"rendered":"We are delighted to launch the new site with a poem from Ian Duhig"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma,Verdana,Helvetica,Arial;\"><strong>A World After Proverbs<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma,Verdana,Helvetica,Arial;\"><em>Where there is plenty, take plenty;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Where there is little, take it all.<\/em><br \/>\n&#8211; Irish proverb<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>When the hour drew Motholoch to Rathlin,<br \/>\nbreasting the signal from Marconi\u2019s ribs<br \/>\nin Ballycastle, she rode the Sea\u2019s Swallow<br \/>\non a dulse raft flanked by compass jellyfish.<br \/>\nThey folded in the surf like tricolours<br \/>\nwhile she beached at the limbus of the moon<br \/>\nby logs furred with geese hungry to be born.<\/p>\n<p>When she peeled the turf back from the mass-rock<br \/>\nit spoke to her of axe-makers and trade,<br \/>\nhow oats and salt bought a corpse\u2019s gold teeth<br \/>\nor the silk taken from corpses, of fish<br \/>\npoisoned for the stories of three gold teeth.<br \/>\n\u2018The oceans are poisoned now for nothing\u2019,<br \/>\nshe answered, \u2018The tooth-standard is still in force.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>When the Virgin folded in Rathlin surf<br \/>\nlike a jellyfish, it gave the first sign.<br \/>\nFrom McFarland\u2019s abominable marriage<br \/>\nshe took the next.
