{"id":20594,"date":"2019-11-30T08:00:13","date_gmt":"2019-11-30T08:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=20594"},"modified":"2019-11-26T10:02:27","modified_gmt":"2019-11-26T10:02:27","slug":"20594","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/20594\/","title":{"rendered":"Simon Williams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cat Call<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At five a.m. or maybe earlier<br \/>\nthe cat scratches<br \/>\nlike a black wolf to get in.<br \/>\nOne of us climbs out of bed,<br \/>\nsleep blustering us to automatic.<br \/>\nHe jumps aboard.<br \/>\nWe settle back.<\/p>\n<p>At five thirty or maybe slightly later,<br \/>\nthe cat scratches<br \/>\nlike a black panther to get out.<br \/>\nOne of us, undemocratically the same<br \/>\none of us, decamps and lets him out,<br \/>\nsleep not so secure.<br \/>\nHe strides downstairs.<\/p>\n<p>At six a.m. \u2013 I checked it on the clock \u2013<br \/>\nthe cat scratches<br \/>\nlike a black bear to get in, get us out,<br \/>\nlead us to the kitchen and his bowl.<br \/>\nAll this despite the prey<br \/>\nhe\u2019s brought in through the flap:<br \/>\na coypu, two iguanas and a cassowary.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simon Williams<\/strong> has eight published collections, his latest being a co-authored pamphlet with Susan Taylor, <em>The Weather House<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indigodreams.co.uk\/williams-taylor\/4594076848\">www.indigodreams.co.uk\/williams-taylor\/4594076848<\/a>, published in 2017 by Indigo Dreams. This is also touring as a performance show. Simon was elected The Bard of Exeter in 2013, founded the large-format magazine, <em>The Broadsheet<\/em> and produced the well-received <em>PLAY<\/em> Anthology.
