Memories distract me<br \/>\nof the cold July we had our silver wedding,<br \/>\nor the night when Sally knocked<br \/>\nher wineglass in the pond, while Vic<br \/>\nand Ian spent an hour to say<br \/>\nhow much they hated parties,<br \/>\nand Joyce danced up the road to home.<br \/>\nThen there\u2019s a month that\u2019s full<br \/>\nof booby-traps \u2013 two days, a week apart,<br \/>\nwhen cards won\u2019t be required.<br \/>\nMay gets me in the gullet, every time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elizabeth Rimmer<\/strong> has published three poetry collections with Red Squirrel Press, <em>Wherever We Live Now<\/em> (2011), <em>The Territory of Rain<\/em>, (2015) and <em>Haggards<\/em> (2018), and is currently working on a fourth, Burnedthumb.
