\nand thick as velvet, and the little stars
\nstand out as thin as pins.<\/p>\n
\nmyself, I sink, beneath the water:
\nit hurts my skin with its comfort.<\/p>\n
\nI haven\u2019t tried it \u2013 dipping
\nthem in boiling water<\/p>\n
\noff in great gauzy bundles, revealing
\na casing of fat, cool, thick and lardy.<\/p>\n
\nand chip and flake and watch the whiteness
\nfall away in fragments.<\/p>\n
\ndense pulsings of red, like the things
\nthe butcher displays, like those poor flayed corpses.<\/p>\n
\nthose tuberous skeins,
\nare the clear, clean lines of bone<\/p>\n
\na pumping meat-fist,
\nthe mess that I would jettison, cast out.<\/p>\n
\nthe bird, the breath they call spirit,
\nfly far above borne up on words of ash.<\/p>\n
