You were bubbles<\/p>\n

of wonder when we met<\/p>\n

that went pop, pop, pop.<\/p>\n

Each strike by electric shock<\/p>\n

made you forget.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You came to my studio<\/p>\n

for a drawing class that day<\/p>\n

and asked,<\/p>\n

Do you pray?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Will you<\/em><\/p>\n

pray for me?<\/em><\/p>\n

I said yes, to calm you,<\/p>\n

not knowing how.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Later, I saw your face<\/p>\n

in my collage.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For your hair, I grew<\/p>\n

a grass topiary halo, dotted<\/p>\n

with a band of pansies<\/p>\n

and marigolds.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I stitched your dress<\/p>\n

of periwinkles. Blue<\/p>\n

cartwheels pollinated the air.<\/p>\n

Snails the size<\/p>\n

of\u00a0fingernails\u00a0rolled<\/p>\n

over your past.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

That day I said,<\/p>\n

Don’t be afraid of sadness.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wearing your purse around<\/p>\n

your neck, you sunk<\/p>\n

into the soft bed, my couch,\u00a0where<\/p>\n

a young male Daoist once<\/p>\n

dreamed of nothingness.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
