But it\u2019s enough to see by\u2019<br \/>\nMargaret Atwood, <em>Cat\u2019s Eye<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sandstone walls erected in water borders at night<br \/>\nflags flapping above<br \/>\nsquares, stripes and triangles in bright colours<br \/>\ncombined to separate, mark identity and division,<br \/>\ntheir clear cut shapes don\u2019t know<br \/>\nthe blurring of indecision and contradiction.<\/p>\n<p>On the tree, six silkworms gnaw mulberry leaves,<br \/>\nBombyx mori, civilization memento mori.<br \/>\nThe news waiting at the door<br \/>\nback from the dark with predictions of unredeemed world<br \/>\nthe inevitable falling, falling of humans.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carla Scarano D\u2019Antonio<\/strong> obtained her Degree of Master of Arts in Creative Writing at Lancaster University. She self-published a poetry pamphlet, <em>A Winding Road<\/em>, and is working on a PhD on Margaret Atwood at the University of Reading. She and Keith Lander won the first prize of the Dryden Translation Competition 2016 with translations of Eugenio Montale\u2019s poems.
