{"id":19558,"date":"2019-07-25T08:00:54","date_gmt":"2019-07-25T08:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=19558"},"modified":"2020-12-09T15:47:21","modified_gmt":"2020-12-09T15:47:21","slug":"chrissy-banks-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/chrissy-banks-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Chrissy Banks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you don\u2019t come back<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I will turn to the woods.<br \/>\nTo winter woods<br \/>\ntrees rising above<br \/>\ntheir heap of leaves.<br \/>\nI\u2019ll turn to the hills that endure<br \/>\nrain, flood, fog, snow and storm<br \/>\nthe worst winds and fires of full sun.<br \/>\nI will follow the river that keeps on<br \/>\nflowing, keeps on carrying<br \/>\npike and trout and stickleback<br \/>\ndespite its sinkage of stones.<br \/>\nI\u2019ll turn to the garden<br \/>\nand watch how it dies<br \/>\nthen grows; to the swift visits<br \/>\nof winking-winged brimstones<br \/>\nthe patient journeys of ants.<br \/>\nAnd I will turn to the sea<br \/>\nthe sea that will rumble me<br \/>\nslap me awake, holding<br \/>\nits mirror to my face.<br \/>\nI\u2019ll look to the waves\u2019 rise and fall<br \/>\nmoon-pulled, thrown by wind<br \/>\ninto foam. Even to the cold<br \/>\ndeep seaspots, where I can stand<br \/>\nalone, till I\u2019m blue boned.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chrissy Banks<\/strong> lives in Exeter. Her last collection was <em>Days of Fire and Flood<\/em> and another, <em>The Uninvited<\/em>, is forthcoming this year from Indigo Dreams.
