The theme for this year&#8217;s competition was a poem of any length beginning with the word &#8216;Afterwards&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>As the winner of the Norfolk Prize, Maud wins the opportunity for her poem to be made into an animated film, courtesy of sponsors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.somoglobal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Somo Global<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>AFTERWARDS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>afterwards, we perch<br \/>\nbaked by the sun, legs swing<br \/>\nlaughing at the exploits of summer<\/p>\n<p>this time, that time, and<br \/>\nthe murmur of names bring<br \/>\nback the lazy, hazy faces<br \/>\nframe our existence in the minds of places<\/p>\n<p>the soulless winter heralds<br \/>\na crawling spring<br \/>\nlong-awaited rays of gold<br \/>\nof which our memories told<br \/>\nto us, would be worth waiting for<\/p>\n<p>beach riots and sandals slapping<br \/>\nthe sandcastle king.<br \/>\nboardwalk encounters and<br \/>\ndune disasters, we missed this land.<br \/>\nland of being present and<br \/>\nland of sandwiches and swimming and<\/p>\n<p>that \u2018sweltering\u2019 sun.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The runner up in this category is <strong>Jessica Holmes<\/strong> from Turing House School, Hampton.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 15-18 yr old group winner for the 2019 writing competition at UEA\u2019s Festival Of Literature for Young People (FLY) is Maud Webster from City of Norwich School.
