\nit wasn\u2019t Nature\u2019s subtle magnetism<\/em>
\nbut a fickle blue arrow on Google Maps
\nthat led me to saunter out of Marsala
\ndown Contrada Spagnola to Mozia<\/p>\n
\ntill I saw the salt pans segment the water
\nthen the salt mounds and the windmill sails
\nup to the windmill\u2019s jaunty red hat
\nbeyond that kite surfing kites tacking the clouds<\/p>\n
\nand dogwalkers striding through the lagoon
\nlike those Cornish giants a childhood away
\nround a corner a tree of birds took off
\nand chirruped the air and the November sun<\/p>\n
\nlet me turn off for one moment at this stone pier
\nand talk about how three years later right here
\nwhen I proposed in three different languages
\nyou gave me back three different lots of I do<\/p>\n
\ndeer eared on my pillow in a square of light
\nhair slicked back by sleep in the newborn morning
\ni guess old Thoreau was right after all
\nsometimes it pays not to know where you\u2019re going<\/p>\n
