And that is why Skendha Singh&#8217;s simple yet effective, still yet biting, accessible yet intense poem &#8216;Dear -&#8216;, punctuating the end of a relationship, is the IS&amp;T Pick of the Month for November 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Skendha graduated with an M.Litt in Writing Practice and Study from the University of Dundee and has been writing and editing, since then, for her bread and butter. She currently lives in Delhi.<\/p>\n<p>Skendha has asked that her \u00a310 &#8216;prize&#8217; be donated to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/scottishwildlifetrust.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scottish Wildlife Trust.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dear &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">or, maybe not dear. Or dear, as addressed<\/span><br \/>\nto an editor, an employer, a stranger one has<br \/>\nbusiness with. But, not a stranger, intimate &#8211;<br \/>\nlike an ex, but not estranged, close<br \/>\nas a friend, watchful like a long-nosed<br \/>\nneighbour.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">You are too heavy a consequence. I spin<\/span><br \/>\ninto you at the blind corner of each second, all<br \/>\nmy paper bags ripped, my 200 mill<br \/>\nbottles of wishful thinking broken, spilling liqueurs<br \/>\non the pavement.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">And you rend my list of family and friends.<\/span><br \/>\nElbow me in the gut then grab my shoulder. No, stop<br \/>\nbending over me in kind courtesy and offering<br \/>\nto pick up my things, to drop me home in that Eagle<br \/>\nwagon of yours which won\u2019t ever brake at the bend.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">You tip full cups down the drain,<\/span><br \/>\nand leave your scent lingering.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m done.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Come and pick up your things. Not tomorrow. Now.<\/span><br \/>\nAs you read this, I\u2019m blotting the echoes<br \/>\nof yesterday, all the old voices, like bat<br \/>\ndroppings in the basement.<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">Boxing up the old clothes, my parkas, plaid shirt<\/span><br \/>\nsocks: they never made me feel invisible, anyway.<br \/>\nI\u2019ve folded your dark clouds, your damp of rain<br \/>\n<span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">You\u2019ll find them piled on the balustrade.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin-left: 28px;\">But I\u2019m taking the jokes that no one else gets.<\/span><br \/>\nAnd if you seek therapy, we might<br \/>\ngo camping, with flasks of coffee, cling to clefts<br \/>\nof light culling the canopied woods. We might even<br \/>\nbecome friends when I can call you solitude.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>*********<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"response-text other-item ta-response-item\">Voters&#8217; comments included:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item ta-response-item\">A stillness, and so many layers of emotion! Beautiful.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item ta-response-item\">This poem compelled me to read on and into it. It has a great rhythm and is incredibly unique in style. I Love the way it bites! <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item ta-response-item\">Very intense [and] different <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item ta-response-item\">I enjoy how accessible this poem is, and its turns.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item ta-response-item\">This poem really resonated with me. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item ta-response-item\">Very emotional and experienced expression <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item ta-response-item\">The imagery and voice <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item ta-response-item\">&#8230; She is very talented and very natural&#8230;.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item ta-response-item\">I liked the poem and [wanted] to appreciate and motivate a budding writer <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"response-text other-item ta-response-item\"><em>From the poet&#8217;s heart<\/em> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"response-text other-item ta-response-item\"><em>Deep, Profound, yet abstract, in style. Subtle yet forces vivid imagery sans colours but those with emotions, feelings and under the layer one&#8217;s private voice in the head. It could mean different things to different people, yet effectively establishing an introspective and reflective connect&#8230;Great piece, fresh and bold piece.<\/em><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; We have all been there.
