{"id":17610,"date":"2018-10-28T08:00:48","date_gmt":"2018-10-28T08:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=17610"},"modified":"2018-10-15T14:32:03","modified_gmt":"2018-10-15T14:32:03","slug":"clive-donovan-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/clive-donovan-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Clive Donovan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dragonfly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For five lively years it exists as a nymph,<br \/>\nReigning in the murderous rot of a pond,<br \/>\nA terror to tadpoles and minnows it consumes,<br \/>\nFattening, quickening, gathering fuel,<\/p>\n<p>To hatch to an old-fashioned aeroplane<br \/>\nWith four gauzy wings<br \/>\nThat can hover or spring<br \/>\nTo attack in a six-fold directional swoop.<\/p>\n<p>I watch one ace pilot in easy command<br \/>\nCruising the latticed sun and shadow of his patch.<br \/>\nWe both breathe the damp air of river and bank;<br \/>\nA rich interface filled with dainties.<\/p>\n<p>His species more ancient than mine:<br \/>\nSo skilled and dangerous his evolved control<br \/>\nIn the brief iridescent passing<br \/>\nFlash of a million year old summer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clive Donovan<\/strong> devotes himself full-time to poetry and lives in the creative atmosphere of Totnes in Devon.
