Cast from Shadowland; yet clinging still<\/span>
to trailing fingers of kindred wraiths<\/span>
my harbinger spirit seeks respite<\/span>
in Hades\u2019 neon hallways <\/span>
then flounders in its silent search<\/span>
as useless sleep lets loose her grip<\/span>
and that bastard nocturnal thrush<\/span>
drags me from bed; winging me awake<\/span>
its happy beak; singing as I dance<\/span>
a Grimaldi pantomime; me<\/span>
now a pyjama\u2019d clown <\/span>
of the darkest hour<\/span>

Later through the misty steam of cocoa<\/span>
A grimalkin cat thaws from my heart<\/span>
blood dripping from her fangs<\/span>
Screeching the nightingale to silence<\/span>

Dawn breaks over a bloody cenotaph<\/span>
Nae, a Babel tower of twigs<\/span>
