Listening to Charles Ives<\/p>\n

<\/span>
The street vainly imitates a theatre,<\/span>
dropped pennies and reflectors footlight my walk<\/span>
the rumble of a crowd gathers and storms.<\/span>

Beats rain down and hide in the gutter,<\/span>
rivulets form around the clutter<\/span>
of the pavement\u2019s percussion orchestra.<\/span>

Hush.<\/span>

Sticky leather sky.<\/span>

The air vibrates still<\/span>
through drum-buildings.<\/span>

I think of us listening to Charles Ives.<\/span>
You heard cacophony, I heard the silence<\/span>
after the tempest, when the bells<\/span>

had ceased, but their ripples<\/span>
reached to our seats like<\/span>
the promise of a tomorrow.<\/span>
