Flattened rounds,<br \/>\ntambourines, but pawn black,<br \/>\nsilver streamers trailing from their valves,<br \/>\nlollipops, against cloud<\/p>\n<p>sheen, six came like fighters,<br \/>\nwere five, climbed, formed a V, a<br \/>\nLibra, W, Cassiopeia,<br \/>\nthen passed. I looked away, typed a<\/p>\n<p>note in the iPhone\u2019s commonplace book,<br \/>\nsomeone else filmed it on his,<br \/>\nour mediation mediated,<br \/>\nthe thing itself, there, looked<\/p>\n<p>at through another thing, and then<br \/>\nwhen I looked again all were gone<br \/>\nto Coulsdon Town or nowhere, along<br \/>\nwith each connotation I\u2019d witnessed in them<\/p>\n<p>or had endowed them with. I cursed,<br \/>\nwished I\u2019d stared harder, sucked<br \/>\nthem straight into brain through pupils. But<br \/>\nthat might\u2019ve proved them less, or worse.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>Paul Connolly<\/strong>\u2019s poetry has appeared in <em>Agenda, Poetry Salzburg Review, The Warwick Review, The Reader, The Journal, Scintilla, Canada Quarterly, <\/em>and<em> The Dawntreader<\/em>.
