{"id":17111,"date":"2018-08-26T08:00:46","date_gmt":"2018-08-26T08:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=17111"},"modified":"2018-08-18T12:25:12","modified_gmt":"2018-08-18T12:25:12","slug":"allegra-dubus-brandolini","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/allegra-dubus-brandolini\/","title":{"rendered":"Allegra Dubus-Brandolini"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Toast<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve always been an observer.<br \/>\nLike the moon watched the sun shine across the earth basking in its beauty and everything that gets to feel its gentle kiss.<br \/>\nI observed the buds blooming on our lilac tree in the front yard and as I smelled them, they cradled my little chubby face and said<br \/>\n\u201cDon\u2019t worry, I\u2019m coming.\u201d<br \/>\nI observed seconds becoming minutes, becoming hours, becoming days, becoming months, becoming years.<br \/>\n1<br \/>\n2<br \/>\n3<br \/>\n4<br \/>\n5<br \/>\n6<br \/>\nI observed the ground becoming further away and the ceiling just out of my reach.<br \/>\nI observed you, mom, staring off into the distance, as if you were nearing a black hole and were climbing into its depths, leaving me chasing behind you screaming \u201cWait, I want to come too!\u201d<br \/>\nI want to come too.<br \/>\nWhen I let those words escape my mouth, while dad was away, your eyes became big and soft, and suddenly there was no black hole, but a forest, and you and I were traveling hand in hand.<br \/>\nHand in hand.<br \/>\nI observed the anxious feelings bubbling up when you realized we were on our own, but to me, I felt as if we were astronauts floating from one planet to the other, waiting to find our galaxy.<br \/>\nI observed your tears, when you thought I wasn\u2019t looking<br \/>\nBut you should know by now, I\u2019m always looking<br \/>\nI observed your fear, your frustration, your anger.<br \/>\nBut mostly, I saw your heart.<br \/>\nThis big beautiful bleeding heart that was just pumping and breathing for love.<br \/>\nNow your heart has found its partner.<br \/>\nA place to rest its head when it all becomes too much.<br \/>\nA person to dance with in the kitchen on a normal Monday afternoon.<br \/>\nSomeone to make you snort when you laugh.<br \/>\nBefore him, I never heard you snort.<br \/>\nYou have found your partner.<br \/>\nThe king to your queen.<br \/>\nThe astronauts have retired. They have finally found their home. It was not a heaven per say, but a safe haven made up of talking over movies, laughing while eating cr\u00eapes and jam, and music.<br \/>\nLots of music.<br \/>\nMom, we have finally found our galaxy<br \/>\nAnd I observed it all.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Allegra Dubus-Brandolini<\/strong> is a senior in high school. When she is not writing, she is busy acting, dancing, and singing.
