{"id":17104,"date":"2018-08-24T08:00:42","date_gmt":"2018-08-24T08:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=17104"},"modified":"2018-07-27T13:53:37","modified_gmt":"2018-07-27T13:53:37","slug":"charley-barnes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/charley-barnes\/","title":{"rendered":"Charley Barnes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Denial<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t take the doctor seriously when she says it.<br \/>\nOn the sofa at home I tell my partner:<br \/>\n\u201cOnly skinny people have eating disorders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin-left: 56px;\">\u201cWhat about the people are who are eating themselves to death?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re different,\u201d I say, before explaining<br \/>\nagain how eating disorders belong to the skinny,<br \/>\nnot the formerly-fat or the trying-to-be-thin.<\/p>\n<p>He asks me to eat something: a chocolate biscuit,<br \/>\npiece of fruit, slice of toast,<br \/>\nwithout adding the calories to my calculator.<\/p>\n<p>We stay together on the sofa until my panic subsides.<br \/>\nI swear to call the number the doctor gave me,<br \/>\nand he promises he won\u2019t get the biscuits.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charley Barnes<\/strong> is a writer who hails from Worcestershire.
