Blind Date<\/span>


“I've never been on a blind date,” I state,<\/span>
feeling a mixture of pride and sorrow.<\/span>
“I haven't either,” my wife responds immediately,<\/span>
looking away from the TV screen.<\/span>

I look at her to see if she is kidding.<\/span>
But she isn't.<\/span>
“Yes you have,” I say. “You've been on a blind date.”<\/span>
A quizzical look crosses her face.<\/span>

“In college, remember,<\/span>
when you decided you needed to date other guys.”<\/span>
“Oh that. I forgot all about that.”<\/span>

“So you're one up on me,” I continue,<\/span>
“seeing as I've never been on a blind date<\/span>
and you have.” I guess it is pride I'm feeling.<\/span>
I've never had to resort to a blind date<\/span>
like my wife has.<\/span>
“Yup, I'm one up on you, ha, ha,” she kids me,<\/span>
turning her attention back to the TV.<\/span>

Of course I can't help but reflect<\/span>
on how that blind date of hers, a date she dismisses<\/span>
out of hand, that ha ha blind date of hers,<\/span>
was actually the worst day of my entire life.<\/span>
The day she sent me away<\/span>
so she could spend the day with another guy,<\/span>
the day I could have lost her,<\/span>
the most beautiful woman I have ever known.<\/span>

I guess the laugh's on her though,<\/span>
because her stupid blind date was a fiasco<\/span>
and she ended up stuck with me forever, poor thing.<\/span>
