{"id":16970,"date":"2018-08-05T08:00:47","date_gmt":"2018-08-05T08:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=16970"},"modified":"2018-07-10T11:24:38","modified_gmt":"2018-07-10T11:24:38","slug":"jessica-walker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/jessica-walker\/","title":{"rendered":"Jessica Walker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Hive To The Operators Again<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I punched your number<br \/>\ninto my phone so hard<br \/>\nI think that you heard the<br \/>\nthuds and dial tones.<br \/>\nAs when you answered<br \/>\nafter one sharp ring<br \/>\nyou didn\u2019t sound surprised<br \/>\nthat I was calling.<\/p>\n<p>I only whistled lullabies<br \/>\nand our song that we used<br \/>\nto slow dance to in our<br \/>\ncompact box kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>I still have the bruises from where my hip hit the stove time and time again.<\/p>\n<p>You told me that I was still out of tune<br \/>\nand inevitably out of luck.<\/p>\n<p>The rain knocked down my mailbox again<br \/>\nand you came round the next day to fix it.<br \/>\nI didn\u2019t tell you that it was me who axed it.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve begun to feel out of control: bees swarm in hives<br \/>\naround my busy head.<br \/>\nAm I the Queen Bee now? The largest one with four million maids and a joker.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, when I think no one is watching I eat honey from a jar with a silver spoon.<br \/>\nAnd if I dance for strangers in underground clubs,<br \/>\nthey hum and buzz like you never would.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><strong>Jessica Walker<\/strong> is a poet living and working in York. She is a graduate of York St John University where she received a degree in Linguistics and\u00a0Creative Writing. She is a\u00a0recipient of the Foyle Young Poet of the Year Award and of the Cumbria\u00a0Young Writers Award. Her poetry has been published by The Poetry\u00a0Society, Tower Poetry in their anthology <em>Something To Be Said<\/em> and by <em>Cadaverine<\/em> <em>Magazine<\/em>.
