POSTCARD FROM RAJASTHAN<\/span>


If you could see me now at Pushkar Fair \u2013 <\/span>
though with thousands of tourists milling around <\/span>
I\u2019m small as a bug in the hay.<\/span>

Can you imagine the smell of it \u2013 <\/span>
spices and sweat, hot camel dung? <\/span>
These fields are hazy with dust.<\/span>

Have you been close to a camel? <\/span>
They moan like wrestlers \u2013 but such <\/span>
soft eyes  with brows as bushy as brooms.  <\/span>

Last night I sat by the lake.<\/span>
Some people were bathing \u2013 a ritual dip.<\/span>
The sky was saffron and red.<\/span>
