{"id":16679,"date":"2018-07-12T08:00:41","date_gmt":"2018-07-12T08:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=16679"},"modified":"2020-12-09T16:17:38","modified_gmt":"2020-12-09T16:17:38","slug":"16679","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/16679\/","title":{"rendered":"Louisa Adjoa Parker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Those wild, pre-Brexit days<\/strong><br \/>\nafter Josephine Corcoran<\/p>\n<p>Do you remember those wild, pre-Brexit days<br \/>\nwhen immigrants filled our seas with their bodies,<br \/>\nfloated death onto our beaches<br \/>\nforced us to see images of dead immigrant children<br \/>\nwhile we were eating our cereal and drinking our tea?<\/p>\n<p>And a man couldn\u2019t take a shit in his own toilet<br \/>\nwithout finding an immigrant squatting over the bowl<br \/>\nand when he went to work the immigrants had run off with his job<br \/>\nand when immigrants crawled out of gutters<br \/>\nand when immigrants crawled out of the seas<\/p>\n<p>Do you remember those wild, pre-Brexit days<br \/>\nwhen the immigrants killed our language<br \/>\nhow when a man walked down his own street,<br \/>\nit was like living in Syria, or Poland or some godforsaken place,<br \/>\nand a man had to listen to them chattering like monkeys<\/p>\n<p>and when he went to the corner shop<br \/>\nthe immigrants had bought all the white sliced<br \/>\nand immigrants owned the shop, too!<br \/>\nAnd when he went to the job centre they\u2019d run off with his benefits.<br \/>\nAnd when immigrants crawled out of gutters<br \/>\nand when immigrants crawled out of the seas<\/p>\n<p>Do you remember those wild, pre-Brexit days<br \/>\nwhen immigrants stole all our women<br \/>\nand when a man tried to make love to his own wife<br \/>\nan immigrant had climbed into his bed,<br \/>\nslid between his cotton sheets<br \/>\nand was running his immigrant hands<br \/>\nall over her English rose skin<br \/>\nand a man had to watch while the immigrant took her \u2013<br \/>\nwhile he whispered sweet nothings in foreign!<br \/>\nAnd when a man went downstairs to make tea<br \/>\nan immigrant poured himself out of the kettle.<\/p>\n<p>And immigrants crawled out of the gutters.<br \/>\nAnd immigrants crawled out of the seas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Louisa Adjoa Parker<\/strong> is a writer of English\/Ghanaian heritage.
