Still<br \/>\nwhen it is time, my surname sounds<\/p>\n<p>like a wave, rising from pelvis to chest<br \/>\nas I step out to the dais. Then<\/p>\n<p>the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doxycycline-buy.com\">doxycycline-buy.com\/<\/a> smell of currency on his breath<br \/>\nas the headmaster leans in close<\/p>\n<p>to my ear, the fear in my mouth<br \/>\nlike some sort of silence, or loss.<\/p>\n<p>The weight of the ribbon tied box<br \/>\nis surprisingly warm.<\/p>\n<p>I unknot my satins and hold in my hands<br \/>\nmy accent \u2013 this taut, fleshy thing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ruth Steadman<\/strong>\u2019s poetry has been published in <em>The High Window<\/em>, <em>New Boots and Pantisocracies<\/em>, on the Royal Academy\u2019s blog, and is forthcoming in <em>Popshot Magazine<\/em>.
