faded red-and-white warnings<\/span>

strung from tarnished poles<\/span>
visible in bright sunlight\u2026<\/span>
driver, beware of the dark.<\/span>

Searching for donkeys<\/span>

Eyestrain,<\/span>
scanning the horizon<\/span>
for donkeys,<\/span>
for goat kids or lambs,<\/span>
for signs<\/span>
that nothing changes, that<\/span>
the old ways<\/span>
cling, have strong, deep roots.<\/span>
