That night<\/span>


I wouldn\u2019t want you to think I\u2019d forgotten that night<\/span>
I\u2019ve been busy<\/span>
I\u2019ve had shit to do \u2013 <\/span>
an appointment on Thursday<\/span>
future ex-husbands to meet<\/span>
and you know, yoga and <\/span>

I\u2019m not fucking with you <\/span>
except for when I\u2019m fucking with you<\/span>
but I don\u2019t want you to think I\u2019ve forgotten that night<\/span>

I\u2019ve been busy with people I don\u2019t like as much as you<\/span>
people who don\u2019t think like you<\/span>
dress like you<\/span>
sing like you \u2013 <\/span>
in your tone-deaf, extraordinarily bad way<\/span>
you break stained-glass windows <\/span>

I haven\u2019t forgotten that night<\/span>
and this morning I saw icicles melt <\/span>
the milkman smiled <\/span>
I swear a dog winked at me<\/span>
it was all brilliant and it was all a bit like you<\/span>

I don\u2019t even have a milkman<\/span>
but over toast I heard something funny on the radio<\/span>
and I knew that in another, more smug life,<\/span>
you and me are grinning at the witticism as I pour you more coffee<\/span>
ceramic smiles as sausages fry, humble<\/span>

but in this life<\/span>
it\u2019s just appointments <\/span>
and the feeling of satisfaction when you lessen your overdraft<\/span>
or buy new shoes in the sale<\/span>
or bake bread<\/span>
or hear Journey <\/span>
or dance to Meat Loaf in a surreal location;<\/span>
it\u2019s not a fight<\/span>
it\u2019s just appointments<\/span>
and I\u2019m late late late<\/span>
but I wouldn\u2019t want you to think for a moment<\/span>
that I\u2019d forgotten that night.<\/span>
