{"id":16278,"date":"2018-05-22T08:00:19","date_gmt":"2018-05-22T08:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=16278"},"modified":"2018-04-05T10:00:12","modified_gmt":"2018-04-05T10:00:12","slug":"phil-vernon-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/phil-vernon-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Phil Vernon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instructions <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Select your glue with care<br \/>\nas most are designed for smooth<br \/>\nor porous surfaces \u2013 not both<\/p>\n<p>brush clear of debris<br \/>\nthen dab with alcohol<br \/>\nrehearse the join \u2013 <em>and breathe<\/em><\/p>\n<p>the contours<br \/>\nwhere the break occurred<br \/>\nmust match<\/p>\n<p>press firmly \u2013 tentatively rotate<br \/>\ntill both sides fit as they did before<br \/>\nwith a silent click<\/p>\n<p><em>and breathe<\/em> \u2013 now practise again<br \/>\nfor you will not have a second<br \/>\nsecond chance<\/p>\n<p>should you misjudge<br \/>\nthe union will be<br \/>\nnot as good as new<\/p>\n<p><em>so breathe<\/em><br \/>\nunscrew the cap<br \/>\nimagine every step ahead<\/p>\n<p>then pierce the seal with a pin<br \/>\napply the swelling glue<br \/>\n<em>and breathe<\/em><\/p>\n<p>wipe clean the tip \u2013 replace the cap<br \/>\nand set aside the tube and pin<br \/>\nyou should not need them again<\/p>\n<p><em>can you feel your breathing?<\/em><br \/>\nspread the adhesive evenly<br \/>\nwith an unspent match<\/p>\n<p>position both parts so you\u2019ll be<br \/>\nalmost sure to grasp them right<br \/>\n<em>can you feel your breathing now?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>next you must wait<br \/>\nuntil it is almost<br \/>\ndry to the touch<\/p>\n<p>so sit, and notice your breath\u2019s caress<br \/>\nassess the glue with a fingertip<br \/>\nand test again<\/p>\n<p>and now<br \/>\n<em>while breathing quietly out<\/em><br \/>\nsuspend your disbelief<\/p>\n<p>take both in your hands \u2013 rotate<br \/>\nattempt the angles again \u2013 again<br \/>\n<em>and breathe<\/em><\/p>\n<p>in one swift movement press and hold<br \/>\nuntil your fingertips turn white<br \/>\n<em>and breathe<\/em><\/p>\n<p>a final check \u2013 the angle\u2019s right?<br \/>\nwipe swollen beads from the join<br \/>\nthe hairline disappears<\/p>\n<p>set down the delicate whole<br \/>\n<em>and breathe <\/em><br \/>\nand wait<\/p>\n<p>and learn<br \/>\n<em>while breathing <\/em><br \/>\nif the join will take.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil Vernon<\/strong> has lived in Kent since 2004, after twenty years living in various countries in Africa.
