Dummies<\/strong><\/p>\nWe ride the escalators in pairs
\nupwards past the plastic palms,
\nthe static rapids. Our flawless skin
\nshines blue in the half-light, the smell
\nof palma violets hangs in the air.<\/p>\n
We dare not speak, nor touch,
\nfor fear of waking the blinking eye
\nwhile above us, through the criss-cross roof
\nof steel and glass, the planets glow.
\nWe do not know their names,
\nor if we do, forgot them long ago.<\/p>\n
The hum of neon guides us
\nto our gods \u2013 Gucci, Prada,
\nMichael Kors. Consumption courses
\nthrough our veins driving us higher
\nto our great design.<\/p>\n
