We haven't published any sonnets on IS&T for some time but this one really ticked all the boxes \u2013 in a pleasantly subversive way…<\/span>


A sad soggy sonnet<\/span>


She wore a lampshade on her head that day<\/span>
despite the warnings of the weather man<\/span>
who promised rain. She missed the bus, so ran<\/span>
and splashed through floods and puddles all the way<\/span>
arriving late for school, with dripping hair,<\/span>
her lampshade\u2019s tassels matted, limp and sad.<\/span>
\u201cI\u2019m wet!\u201d she cried. \u201cOf course you are, you mad<\/span>
deluded cow,\u201d the teacher said, but where<\/span>
a school friend has carte blanche to say such words<\/span>
a teacher shouldn\u2019t. \u201cOoh!\u201d the whole class said<\/span>
forgetting for a moment that a head<\/span>
adorned with soggy lampshade looks absurd.<\/span>
The teacher glared, the children shook with fear,<\/span>
the lampshade-laden lassie shed a tear.<\/span>
