This poem was written in response to a pile of kitchen utensils on display as part of The Holocaust Exhibition at The Imperial War Museum in London.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">The Whisk, the Spoon and the Grater.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">The handing down of recipes grandmother, mother, daughter.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">How much grated lemon rind? \u2018Is this a pinch mama?\u2019 <\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">Almonds blanched or toasted?<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">The blending of butter, the tender folding of egg white.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">Simple acts of love.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">In a small brown case, Ira placed the whisk the spoon and the grater <\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">she would never use. <\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">The whisk, the spoon and the grater, were added to the pile.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\">Simple acts of hate.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><br style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\"><\/font><font style=\"font-family: Courier New,Courier,mono;\" size=\"2\">*<br \/>\nPatricia Mullin trained at Colchester School of Art, Central School of<br \/>\nArt &amp; Design (now Central-St Martins) and Goldsmiths. Her first novel <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Gene Genie<\/span><br \/>\nwas published in 2005 and in 2007 she graduated from the Writing the<br \/>\nVisual MA at from Norwich School of Art.
