{"id":15434,"date":"2018-01-10T09:00:59","date_gmt":"2018-01-10T09:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=15434"},"modified":"2017-12-21T15:44:22","modified_gmt":"2017-12-21T15:44:22","slug":"sharon-phillips-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/sharon-phillips-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Sharon Phillips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>You decide<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>to make more of your day off<br \/>\nnot fritter it reading books that<br \/>\nhalf-bore you books celebrated<br \/>\nin Sunday supplements books<br \/>\nthat in five years or maybe ten<br \/>\nwill represent modern fiction<br \/>\non the syllabuses you teach so<\/p>\n<p>you put on jeans and a jacket<br \/>\nwhich your children say makes<br \/>\nyou look like a member of a rock<br \/>\ntribute band and you store that<br \/>\naway to think about on the trip<br \/>\nto town where you decide to visit<br \/>\na gallery for the first time in years<\/p>\n<p>and you look at pictures without<br \/>\nbeing sure what you\u2019re looking at<br \/>\nbut pleased that you have made<br \/>\nthe effort because dear god there<br \/>\nmust be more to life than rubbery<br \/>\ngrey and here the altarpieces in<br \/>\ngold and blue might lift your mood<\/p>\n<p>and in the gallery\u2019s final room you<br \/>\nsee a guard with red hair on a seat<br \/>\nin the corner falling asleep then<br \/>\nlurching awake while standing next<br \/>\nto him is a woman you used to see<br \/>\non children\u2019s TV programmes who<br \/>\nsmiles at you. You smile back.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sharon Phillips<\/strong> lives on the Isle of Portland.
