A London Park.<br \/>\nThe distant trees ghostly on the far<br \/>\nbank of the bleak lake.<br \/>\nFour and seven, say, in camel coats<br \/>\nwith beaver collars, feeding the ducks.<br \/>\nI am holding a bag of bread<br \/>\nstanding beside my sister<br \/>\nas we stare ahead in the line of duty<br \/>\nwith nothing between us except<br \/>\na strip of grey water<br \/>\nand a single moorhen sailing blithely by.<br \/>\nAbove rain clouds gather<br \/>\nas the last few birds dart for shelter<br \/>\nbefore the sky splits open.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sue Hubbard<\/strong> is an award-winning poet, novelist and art critic.
