Angelica Krikler, who wrote and submitted her poem &#8216;Nature&#8217; when she was 16, streaked ahead of her fellows on the shortlist and is IS&amp;T&#8217;s Pick of the Month for June 2017. Voters responded to the beauty of the poem and were engaged by its exceptional use of language.<\/p>\n<p>Angelica lives in Essex and writes fiction and poetry outside of school. Her poem \u2018Bacteria\u2019 was published on the online <em>Y-Magazine<\/em> and another poem \u2018Cleopatra\u2019 is published in the latest issue of <a href=\"http:\/\/morphrog.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/morphrog.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1492417235613000&amp;usg=AFQjCNG9XOz7gF6cidTqnPQMmphR_r0qyA\">morphrog.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nature<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Plants grow out of her eyes<br \/>\nBecause all she sees in him is the beauty of nature<br \/>\nThe chants she stops in her day to listen to<br \/>\nThe air she exhales<br \/>\nAnd the mud she wipes from her feet<br \/>\nBut nature is a vicious cycle<br \/>\nTwo seas mix, the water never settles<br \/>\nEndlessly floating from the plaits in her hair and the sandy pebbles on the shore<br \/>\nLike the granules in a coffee pot<br \/>\nWeight on shoulders<br \/>\nHands on the small of her back<br \/>\nMagnetic air between mouths<br \/>\nOne day she\u2019ll know what to spend her money on<br \/>\nOne day she\u2019ll know how to reply<br \/>\nShe will lift up the old carpet<br \/>\nDragging a tree away from its roots<br \/>\nRealising soon that sometimes nature must be cut away<br \/>\nIn order to see the daylight<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Voters comments included:<\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item\">Angelica&#8217;s poem is beautiful, written with soul, sensitivity and maturity. Her work evokes the beauty of the natural world and the wonders of our environment. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item\">The most incredible young talent I have ever known X <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item\">Exceptional wording.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item\">I like the use of enjambment. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item\">&#8230;a stand out <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item\">This poem uses language cleverly and beautifully to express deep feelings and strong ideas <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item\">Beautifully written with a powerful and unexpected ending<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item\">Because I&#8217;m not a poem kind of guy but it made me think about the woman<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"response-text other-item\">Touched me on a personal level.
