Dementia: Forgotten sounds<\/span>


In the beginning<\/span>
silence and emptiness<\/span>
before you begin to remember<\/span>

and<\/span>

then the hush that makes you feel light at the top of your spine<\/span>
then the quietness that hints at memory sounds<\/span>
then the itch that makes you scratch your eardrums<\/span>
then the hum of whirring wings waiting<\/span>
then the curse that makes you stop listening<\/span>
then the thunder that pushes your ears together but your skull resists<\/span>
then the forgotten sounds of dementia<\/span>

and<\/span>

in the end<\/span>
silence and emptiness<\/span>
after you have forgotten.<\/span>
