Seamless<\/strong><\/p>\n Ever since I remodelled my sister\u2019s hair <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n
\nthey\u2019ve hidden scissors, pen knives,
\nsometimes needles in a locked room.
\nThe key\u2019s hidden under a stone somewhere
\nin the nettled-yard. I recognise its glint,
\nslip it in my shirt pocket, squeeze it
\nin my schoolboy\u2019s hand, release cutlery,
\ntweezers, a small toffee hammer.
\nI make loud thumps on tiles, run fingers
\ndown walls until paper curls under nails,
\nholler up the hallway, kiss the cat\u2019s paws,
\ntaste dead bird. I snort like a pig,
\ntake radiator-draped knickers,
\nwave them flag-like, break my heart
\nso parts of it can\u2019t be found. I roll marbles
\nin the dark, hear occasional clinks,
\ncrawl upstairs, pins between lips,
\nwait for the moon to throw up her arms
\nthen tack them down like a cold-slabbed
\ncorpse that insists it\u2019s murder. I snatch
\na twist of her hair from under my pillow,
\ncoil it around my fingers, stretch it
\nto full-length until each strand tears.
\nI crack knuckles like nuts, fasten thread from
\nthe window to the bed so when wind blows,
\nmy cold-pressed hands summon a prayer
\nfrom my core to complicate the darkness.<\/p>\n
