Framed<br \/>\nby two speaker stacks,<br \/>\nsounddesk either left<br \/>\nat standard rock setting<br \/>\nor frantically manipulated<br \/>\nby the band&#8217;s sound engineer,<br \/>\nin the low ceilinged room,<br \/>\ncarpeted by beer and dust.<\/p>\n<p>The stage saw fall-outs,<br \/>\nmake-outs, splits,<br \/>\nbrilliant solos,<br \/>\nevery single mirror-<br \/>\npracticed posture,<br \/>\nwithout comment.<\/p>\n<p>After a walk home<br \/>\nstarting with shoegazing indie<br \/>\nfrom open car windows,<br \/>\ntraditional Serb folk<br \/>\nfrom the Saxby Street B&amp;Bs,<br \/>\nmoving through a bridge<br \/>\nof bangra, walking past<br \/>\nthat hippie household,<br \/>\nbefore being blasted<br \/>\nby urban and rap<br \/>\nthen shutting the door<br \/>\nand letting that night&#8217;s<br \/>\ngig reverberate to fade.<\/p>\n<p>My job was to review<br \/>\nthose who played on<br \/>\nthat stage,<br \/>\nthe uneven floor<br \/>\nscattered with gaffa tape,<br \/>\nabandoned plectrums<br \/>\nand the random splatter<br \/>\nof dark red, spilt paint.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emma Lee<\/strong>&#8216;s most recent collection is &#8220;Ghosts in the Desert&#8221; (IDP, 2015).
