{"id":1254,"date":"2008-05-23T13:25:38","date_gmt":"2008-05-23T13:25:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=1254"},"modified":"2008-05-23T13:25:38","modified_gmt":"2008-05-23T13:25:38","slug":"two-poems-by-maureen-wheldon-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/two-poems-by-maureen-wheldon-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Two poems by Maureen Wheldon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font size=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">ACCEPTANCE<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">She holds a rose to her throat,<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">the leaves tickle her thoughts,<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">her face like a painter&#39;s palette,<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">her legs like easels.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">She was once the beauty<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">stepping across the red carpet,<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">gracing coffee houses:<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">in an age of grace.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Now wrinkle-eyed,<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">she sits and sews and darns<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">her grandson&#39;s socks:<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">sitting in a wicker chair.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">She sees her once dark<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">and lustrous hair,<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">and hears sweet music.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Maybe, it is just the trees<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">the summer trees and roses.<\/span><br style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><\/font><font style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/font><font style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\" size=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">~ ~ ~ ~ ~<\/span><\/font><font style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\" size=\"2\"><br \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">EMAILS FROM U.S.A.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you thought<br \/>I wanted to cling around your neck?<br \/>(that was in another dimension).<\/p>\n<p>A fine catch?<br \/>No, with your hands slippery<br \/>like mackerel,<br \/>your feet flatter than dabs.<\/p>\n<p>And what was in-between?<br \/>Eels and mussels<br \/>and little rock pools<br \/>for catching shrimps.<\/p>\n<p>Now silence is your word.<br \/>The sham?&nbsp; <br \/>No message on-line again today?
