{"id":12536,"date":"2017-03-18T09:00:19","date_gmt":"2017-03-18T09:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=12536"},"modified":"2020-12-09T15:27:30","modified_gmt":"2020-12-09T15:27:30","slug":"tom-stevens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/tom-stevens\/","title":{"rendered":"Tom Stevens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Crossing the English channel by foot- I&#8217;ll make Dieppe by tea-time.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I push images of that great bolt of fluid<br \/>\nstreaming out of Shoreham sewage treatment plant,<br \/>\nsnaking towards Brighton beach, out of my mind,<br \/>\nstriding into the churned, murky waters, cloake in neoprene,<br \/>\nthe rain storm long passed to a flash of sun,<br \/>\njellyfish and lone weeds thrashed against the<br \/>\npebbles, I come to my neck,<br \/>\nsnap my eyelids shut, ignoring the thought<br \/>\nof storm drains awash with the babble of the streets,<br \/>\ntake a breath,<br \/>\nand head under the wave, which pulls easterly<br \/>\nas the sea drags itself further and further<br \/>\naway from us.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hailing from the countryside of Gloucestershire, but currently living in Brighton, East Sussex, <strong>Tom Stevens<\/strong> is a twenty-one year old who studied English literature at the University of Sussex. Most of his poems are unpublished, and those that are, are in small editorials and student collections.
