R.S.V.P.<\/span>


I am writing to invite you<\/span>
to commemorate the first anniversary of our dead;<\/span>
we will provide cake and whisky,<\/span>

you the sombre tone. The gathering will start promptly at eight,<\/span>
and dress will be black tie. Respect is<\/span>
the theme of the evening. However, we plan for the party<\/span>

to pass into the small hours of the<\/span>
morning, when, after much drinking \u2013  ties, tongues and feelings<\/span>
will be loose enough to hang baubles<\/span>

of memories onto our family trees which spin<\/span>
in all directions.  We ask<\/span>
that you keep touching to a minimum and that you<\/span>

use uncomfortable hugs<\/span>
and firm handshakes only. I ask that you mark<\/span>
this date on your calendar<\/span>

with a large X, this will signal when it is<\/span>
time to gather. Then,<\/span>
your own importance will splinter to allow<\/span>

the gods to remake<\/span>
life from the dust of your memories. We will provide<\/span>
the toasts, pre-arranged<\/span>

silences, seating plans and tissues.<\/span>
