Detached<br \/>\ndance-hall tracks and the reek<br \/>\nof aftershave choked. While the boys<br \/>\nsweated out some kind of love-language<br \/>\nhard to swallow, those girls kept cotton-wool<br \/>\nin their mouths. Stuffed ears with fingers,<br \/>\nthought of themselves erupting into song,<br \/>\nbut remained silent \u2013<br \/>\nconvinced they needed someone<br \/>\nelse&#8217;s tongue to make them sing.<\/p>\n<p>*<br \/>\nWhere did he learn to roll over<br \/>\nand welcome the moon in so quickly?<br \/>\nWhile she\u2019s still wide-eyed<br \/>\nand waiting for a crescendo<br \/>\nto rush her skin, an orchestra<br \/>\nof high and low notes to lift<br \/>\nher skywards like a hymn. !<br \/>\nWhere did she learn that sex<br \/>\nwas nothing but the tune<br \/>\nof repentance? The waltz<br \/>\nof his hands so quick to start<br \/>\nand stop. When did the break<br \/>\nof her heart turn into a love<br \/>\nsong writing its own end?<\/p>\n<p><strong>2<\/strong><br \/>\nA congregation of boys blowing<br \/>\nlike trumpets were once played<br \/>\nin the back of cars. Detached<br \/>\ndance hall tracks and the reek<br \/>\nof perfume choked. While the girls<br \/>\nsweated some kind of love-language<br \/>\nhard to swallow, those boys bit<br \/>\ntheir lips broken,kept their eyes glazed,<br \/>\nthought of themselves erupting into song<br \/>\nbut remained silent \u2013<br \/>\nconvinced they needed someone<br \/>\nelse&#8217;s tongue to make them sing.<\/p>\n<p>*<br \/>\nWhere did she learn to roll over<br \/>\nand shut out the sun, while he practised<br \/>\na duet solo? A role created<br \/>\nfrom online videos.<br \/>\nWhere did he learn that a maestro<br \/>\nplays a lonely longing<br \/>\non the backbone of him? !<br \/>\nVoice breaks with age<br \/>\nfrom countertenor to bass,<br \/>\nyet he still stays misunderstood.<br \/>\nWhy did he think that sex<br \/>\nwas nothing but the slow dance<br \/>\nof her leaving?<\/p>\n<p>*<br \/>\nNever taught the whole note<br \/>\nof skin, never taught the fine tuning<br \/>\nof fingers across flesh, the treble of pleasure,<br \/>\nthe rhythm of two equal humans<br \/>\nmoving through the scales of each<br \/>\nothers&#8217;\u00a0 voices.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rebecca Tantony<\/strong> graduated from Bath Spa University with a First Class Honours in Creative Writing.
