Splish-splash\u00a0 &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>an orbiting sound speeds<br \/>\nfrom the brackish<\/p>\n<p>depths &#8211; fish so fast we miss it.<br \/>\nLynn calls it back and<\/p>\n<p>it hurtles up, brown blade<br \/>\nof trout driving skyward.<\/p>\n<p>She calls again. It comes again,<br \/>\na miracle of scales slicing<\/p>\n<p>the day. Circles ripple<br \/>\nand multiply. A man in a boat casts<\/p>\n<p>lines thin as floss, out then in then<br \/>\nout again, whip-whip-whip on the loch.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be fooled little fish,<br \/>\nLynn says, they&#8217;re not flies<\/p>\n<p>but hooks that want to bite you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alyson Hallett<\/strong>&#8216;s latest book is <em>On Ridgegrove Hil<\/em>l (Atlantic Press).
