Those eyes,<\/p>\n<p>slits- blocking away the truth, with a look of<br \/>\nlonging, search for stars beyond your skin. The way<\/p>\n<p>you chaliced your palms when it rained, like the<br \/>\ntrees- letting the cuts of fate wash away, gladly.<\/p>\n<p>How you blocked out the buildings with your hands<br \/>\nand with one eye open, looked at the way the sky<\/p>\n<p>would be without them. I like the way how you<br \/>\nalways talk about the moon, as if you have been<\/p>\n<p>there, as if you found love there. Those amethyst<br \/>\nflowers you used to keep under your cotton sleeves,<\/p>\n<p>have been growing inside me since the day you left.<br \/>\nThe skin of the earth peels as I run away from<\/p>\n<p>autumn- the season you detested unlike the<br \/>\ntouch of horse\u2019s mane against your cheeks.<\/p>\n<p>I can only yearn to see you wading through<br \/>\nthe lake in the valleys of Kashmir, where the<\/p>\n<p>unclad trees pray for me to pass by them-<br \/>\nfor a blow of air against their rotten wounds.<\/p>\n<p>Only if you had known that the moon never<br \/>\nshowed itself again, since that night. I know<\/p>\n<p>you would come back if I told you that I can\u2019t<br \/>\nreach to the place where I am headed to,<\/p>\n<p>without your fingers pointing towards<br \/>\nthat part of my soul, which I can call home.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aashna Nagpal<\/strong> is a seventeen year old studying at The Heritage School, India. Her poems have appeared in <em>Canvas, Teenage Wasteland Review<\/em> and elsewhere. She has been yearning for a pet since she was six. Her poems strive to either bring serenity to the reader or stir an inner conflict through her attempts at deciphering human emotions.
