In 1992, I became<br \/>\na member of The British Haiku Society<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"> and was thereby<br \/>\nintroduced to other forms of Japanese poetry.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"> I<br \/>\nmuch prefer the brevity and simplicity of the Japanese style.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"> I feel they have much to teach us, from the subtle, non-judgmental<br \/>\nhaiku, wit of senryu, heartfelt<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"> emotion of the tanka, to the<br \/>\ncollaborative aspects of renga poetry. Many of these short poems<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"> have a greater depth than first perceived.
