Saw only the hopeful and misplaced talent.<\/p>\n<p>I tried to make breakfast in bed<br \/>\nbut you started kissing me and I forgot.<br \/>\nYou put it out. Didn&#8217;t say what could have been.<\/p>\n<p>This was everything and enough for you<br \/>\nand I kept chasing dust.<br \/>\nThat peace&#8230;I couldn&#8217;t accept.<\/p>\n<p>When you cried, I thought that hurt was mine.<br \/>\nThen you smiled and I was once more a child.<br \/>\nIn your boredom, I grabbed my uke and made (bad) music,<\/p>\n<p>a whole minute you stared, whispered &#8220;I only need you here&#8221;.<br \/>\nHad to stop chasing. Took the time to be still.<br \/>\nIn my doubts, you called the pixies out.<\/p>\n<p>Pulled on each of their little hairs so they popped,<br \/>\nended bald and ugly like a potato.<br \/>\nThey could but glare, we could but giggle.<\/p>\n<p>You were with me but so was Depression.<br \/>\nWe slogged at it day by day.<br \/>\nMy regular regeneration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephanie Farnsworth<\/strong> is a queer poet, activist and charity worker based in the North East of England.
