{"id":100,"date":"2012-03-11T22:03:39","date_gmt":"2012-03-11T22:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ink.verticalplus.co.uk\/archive\/?p=100"},"modified":"2012-03-31T12:32:03","modified_gmt":"2012-03-31T12:32:03","slug":"tanka-prose-from-charles-tarlton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inksweatandtears.co.uk\/archive\/tanka-prose-from-charles-tarlton\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanka-prose from Charles Tarlton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>30<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>CARMODY:\u00a0 I am exactly like a helium balloon.\u00a0 I swell up or shrink down depending on the surrounding pressure.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>BLIGHT: [Indicating CARMODY.]\u00a0 Massive in the rarer atmospheres.\u00a0 [Pause.] \u00a0Unable to descend, as it were, without disfigurement.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As a part of our WWII play soldiering and war, my brother and I would tie pieces of string to the corners of cloth squares cut from old bed sheets, and then tie the ends of the strings to large hex nuts.\u00a0 We would fold cloth, strings, and iron tightly and shoot it high in the air with a slingshot made from inner\u00a0tubes.\u00a0 At its apogee, the parcel would unfold, the cloth fill with air, and the whole thing float slowly to the ground.<\/p>\n<p>take everything<br \/>\naway that sounds concocted<br \/>\nwhat do her eyes<br \/>\nsay?\u00a0 Such haughtiness is feigned<br \/>\nshe\u2019s afraid she\u2019ll blow away<\/p>\n<p>High Mass, \u201dsung mass\u201d<br \/>\nthe Eucharist to music<br \/>\nbrings the Bishop<br \/>\nto the parish, much pomp<br \/>\nand tips for the altar boys<\/p>\n<p>long linear<br \/>\ngradient that his career<br \/>\nwas following<br \/>\nbefore he blew himself up<br \/>\nrefueling the lawnmower<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Charles D.
